Ancient Egyptian Invocations and Rituals
The invocations and rituals of Egypt from the Pagan era form the essence of this ancient spiritual legacy. In this section Akhet Hwt-Hrw presents a series of invocations taken from a variety of temples. On this page you will find three different texts used to address the Goddess Hwt-Hrw/Hathor. These were found inscribed on the walls of the Inner Sanctuary of the temple of Dendera.
The second page in this section contains Invocations of the Goddess Sekhmet.
An Invocation of several Egyptian Gods may be viewed on a third page in this section.
Many more translations of ritual texts are available in our series of handbooks entitled: Mdw Hwt-Hrw: Reconstructions of Religious Rituals from Ancient Egypt.

A Second Invocation of Hwt-Hrw (Hathor)
"Awake in Peace!
You yourself beautifully wake in peace! Hwt-Hrw the mistress of Iunet wakes to life!
The Neteru themselves raise to worship you each day, for you are the venerable one who rises as the sky!
For you are the one, the ball of the sun who pierces the sky,
Flooding the countryside with gold,
Who brings life in the east,
Who then immerses the setting sun each night in Iunet.
Awake in peace!
Your belly that contains the perfect womb,
That gives all that is useful to human existence!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in Peace!
Your arms that present milk,
That give life to those who are faithful to you!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your knees that elevate your children, satisfying your heart!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
You whose toes touch the sky,
You preserve your father Ra from those that rebel against him!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
All your members, they all give joy!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your city, Sovereign and mistress of your cities,
Tambourine music and dancing are performed before your manifestation!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your temple that preserves and contains your statue,
All its doors spreading its light!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
The chapels of the gods prepare for Your Majesty,
They form a hedge for your Ka!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your barge, ‘the one that exalts the perfection,'
Your secret and remarkable image is located there!
You awake in peace!
Awake in peace!
You of the crown of Upper Egypt,
you of the crown of Lower Egypt,
The two plumes, the solar disc and the extended pointed horns, all upon your head!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace, the pectoral, the necklace of Your Majesty,
Your father Ra rejoices in seeing you!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your carved images on the walls with all the power within their names!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your large rooms, their doors, their columns and all that exists in the Temple-of the-Sistra!
You yourself wake in peace!"

A Third Invocation of Hwt-Hrw (Hathor)
"Awake in Peace!
You yourself beautifully wake in peace!
Hwt-Hrw, Mistress of Iunet wakes to life!
The Neteru themselves raise to worship you each day,
For you are the venerable who rises as the sky!
For you are the one the ball of the sun who pierces the sky,
Flooding the countryside with gold,
Who brings life in the east,
Who then immerses the setting sun each night in Iunet.
Awake in peace!
Your head is of veritable lapis-lazuli, living, renewing eternally!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your eyes, they dart the rays of the sun,
Ra rejoices at seeing them!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your ears that hear the petitions,
That change life in this country!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your eyebrows situated above your eyes,
Neteru and men live to see them!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your lips, that give the breath of life,
That spit the breath of fire against the rebels!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Mistress of perfection, who nourishes the body to live!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in Peace!
Mistress of true speech, who dispenses the orders of the Ennead!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in Peace!
Your throat that gives the breath of life, filling your heart with joy!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in Peace!
Your beautiful breasts with Ma'at,
Who's divine power is great on the heads of the gods!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your breasts of abundant milk,
Your son, Ihy, is nourished each day!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your heart, the Mistress of joy!
Tambourine music and dancing bring joy to you!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your heart that is the beat of life,
That gives life to all humanity!
You yourself wake in peace!
Awake in peace!
Your back,
It stands up against your enemies keeping evil from those who are faithful to you!
You yourself wake in peace!
Aset the great,
The Mother of the god,
The Mistress of Iatdi,
Who takes her place in Iunet,
The venerable and powerful in the Sanctuary-of-the-Venerable,
The sovereign one in the orb of the Sun,
The queen of heaven,
The queen of earth,
The regent in the west and in the east,
The divine Mother of the Golden-Hawk,
The first wife of (Ounennefer, victorious),
The lady of heaven,
The sovereign of the withered Lord (Ausir),
Who ascends to the throne when she is firm [fixed],
She is satisfied by the beautiful monument,
That the king of Upper and Lower Egypt did build,
The son of Ra on the eternal throne of Heru."
