Individual Ceremonial Modules for the Sacred Festivals of Pagan Egypt

For those practicing the religion of Ancient Egypt the festivals form one of the core activities in their spiritual and magical development. Akhet Hwt-Hrw offers these rites here in a format that has proven effective for actual ritual practice.

As with the modules presented under Akhet Studies, the material presented here may be taken individually or as a series. They are meant to provide pracitcal, easy instruction that is solidly based on research into ancient texts, temple inscriptions and academic sources. Each module is bound with a parchment cover, with the pages printed on quality paper so that these may be used in ritual easily.

• Wep Renpet - The New Year Festival
  The Ancient Egyptian New Year is one of the most sacred festivals in the calendar, as it is the single event in the year in which the energy of the Sun God and Stellar Goddess combined was ritually drawn into the sacred statues of the temples. This module gives an easy to follow, basic ritual drawn from ancient texts. This module is excellent for both the beginner/Rekhyet level and those wishing to move into the more advanced training of the Bezzu level (for a copy of the Wenwet/Priesthood version of the ceremony see our course Ancient Egyptian Ritual Magic or Song of Hathor: Ancient Egyptian Ritual for Today.
• Djehuty 9: Procession of Hathor and Ihy
  Occurring within the first month of the new year this is a celebration of the Goddess Hathor/Hwt-Hrw and Her son Ihy. This is a festival of exuberance, joy and passion. Ihy is the personification of the ectasy and joy that emanates as the sound of the Sistrum, the sacred rattle of Egyptian ritual. He is a God of happiness, the zest for living and the ability to abandon oneself to the moment. This festival celebrates these qualities through sacred texts and dance.
• Djehuty 20 - 24: Festival of Inebriation
  In Ancient Egypt the terms "drunkeness" and "inebriation" did not refer soley to intoxication through the use of substances. Rather inebriation was seen as a state of ecstasy that frequently bordered on trance in which communication with Gods was possible. As such, these states of intoxication were induced through ritual, with the help of chanting and music. In this module we give detailed ceremonial texts in a simple yet effective ritual for this five day long celebration.
• The Mysteries of Isis and Osiris
  During the fourth month of the year the Mysteries of Isis and Osiris were celebrated through a series of elaborate rituals. In these the Lamenting of Isis over the death of Osiris, the resurrection of Osiris through the power of Isis, and the impregnation of Isis are all reinacted in symbolic terms. This module presents the key points of this ritual in a format that is effective for those in the beginning/Rekhyet level as well as those wishing to move into the more advanced training of the Bezzu level (for a copy of the Wenwet/Priesthood version of the ceremony see our course Ancient Egyptian Ritual Magic or Song of Hathor: Ancient Egyptian Ritual for Today.
• Sf-Bdt 19: The Navigation of the Goddess
  This festival, normally celebrated over several days, occurs near the time of the Winter Solstice and represents the journey of Sekhmet, as the Eye of Ra, to the southern lands. In this module the Legend of the Distant Goddess forms the basis of the festival rite. Through this rite the Sun, representing the Eye of Ra, is seen as turning and beginning its annual journey to the north. In this way Sekhmet begins Her transformation back into the beautiful Goddess Hathor/Hwt-Hrw.
• Sf-Bdt 23: Festival of Neith - Mother of the Gods
  Neith is one of the oldest and most revered Goddesses in the Egyptian pantheon. This festival, occuring in the fifth month of the year recognizes this Goddess as the personification of the ancinet waters from which creation arose. In this module the rare and beautiful "Litany of Neith" is presetned as part of this festival's ceremony.
• Renwett 11: The Birth of Ihy
  This is a celebration of the birth of Ihy, the son of Hathor/Hwt-Hrw and Horus the Elder/Heru-Ur. Using a vareity of sacred writings from the temple of Dendera as well as the Coffin Texts, this module presents a detailed ritual invocation of this Neter, as Lord of passion and joy.
• Hnt-htj 1: Candle Feast of Hathor
  During the entire month of Hnt-htj (in the late period this month was called Payni) a sacred flame, in the form of a candle was kept burning as part of the rituals dedicated to Hathor/Hwt-Hrw. In this module we examine this festival through ancient texts and present a practical, yet simple ritual that is done each night of the lunar month.
• Ipt Hmt 1: Festival of the Beautiful Embrace
  Also known as the "Reunion of Hathor/Hwt-Hrw and Horus/Heru" as well as "She is Lead Back" this is by far one the most beautiful and important festivals in the entire Egyptian calendar. Extending over a two week period, this festival celebrates the voyage of Hathor to visit Her lover Horus. During this festival the two lovers conceive their son Ihy. Using indepth ancient temple inscriptions this module recreates the ceremony in a step by step practical rite for today's student.
• Heriu-renpet: The Five Days Upon the Year
  During the five days between the ending of one "civil" year and the beginning of another five of the most important Neteru were born: Osiris, Horus-the-Elder, Set, Isis and Nephthys. This module discusses each of these Neteru, including their natures, symbols, and the appropriate offerings each enjoys. Practical rituals are provided for honoring each. In addition the rite of "Offering" is described.
