Akhet Hwt-Hrw is thrilled to announce the release of the first in a new series of handbooks that provide detailed practical rituals for those involved in Ancient Egyptian Paganism
Mdw Hwt-Hrw: Reconstructions of Religious Rituals from Ancient Egypt
As a school attempting to reconstruct the religious and magical practices of Ancient Egypt, we have long seen the need for comprehensive ceremonial material based solidly in ancient text, yet appropriate for ritual use today. To this end we have created a series of handbooks adapted from ancient texts, yet written in a format that is both easy to understand and apply in practical ritual.
In this series we draw from a variety of temple inscriptions and papyrus texts. This first volume draws heavily from the texts found inside the inner sanctuary, or "Great Seat," of Hwt-Hrw's ancient temple of Dendera. While Hwt-Hrw is specifically named in the rites, these can easily be adapted to fit the worship of other Neteru as well.

Volume One begins with several offering rituals explaining the liturgy and ceremonial gestures used when presenting such
objects as the Sistrum, two Sistra, Hwt-Hrw Mirrors, incense, food, bread, wine and beer. Three different ritual texts for
offering Ma'at are given with explanations for their use.
Volume One continues with a discussion of invocation, listing three different awakening invocations of Hwt-Hrw, as well as
an awakening of several male Neteru. In the section on Hymns and Litanies a rare text termed the "thirteen glorifications of Hwt-Hrw" is given. In addition two different hymns to Aset/Isisare presented. A rare ritual for purifying the ceremonial
space, as adapted from the temple of Dendera, is given in detail as well.
Because of Her importance in the Egyptian spiritual tradition, a section of this first volume is dedicated to the lioness goddess Sekhmet. In this section we present the liturgy for a "Glorification of Sekhmet" as well as a Sekhmet ritual for removing unwanted forces or people.
This 47 page handbook is meant to be a workable text of liturgy for today's practicing Kemetic, that is solidly based on ancient texts. As with all of the material presented by Akhet Hwt-Hrw, the sources used in compiling these rites are carefully documented. Our books are provided in electronic format only. These are sent as PDF files. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer to receive this book.
